Negative taken of a marker on the lawn of the Newton County Courthouse in Jasper, Arkansas, which commemorates when Jasper was named the county seat and for whom it was named after, Thomas Willoughby Newton, a member of the Arkansas State Senate, and the United States Representative from Arkansas. Marker reads, "Newton County County Seat. Jasper, the county seat of Newton County, was designated as such after the creation of the county December 14, 1842. It was named in honor of Thomas W. Newton."
